The reframing of an internal critical voice

Remember that little voice inside you, that doesnt let you do something, that is critical and that makes you think that something is too difficult for you?

Funny isn't it, how a part of you can be so different from what you really want to do. The method below is a very good method for handling those inner voices. As with all these techniques for personal development, find for yourself a place where you have the time and space to explore your inner world.

  • Remember your inner voice that is, or has been, so critical or negative. Imagine again how this voice was. Note details of the sound of the voice, the rhythm of the words and the speed and pitch of the voice.
  • Ask your inner voice to describe his positive intention for you, what he hopes to achieve through being difficult or critical. Listen carefully to the answers you get. Continue with your inner voice asking these questions until you can agree with the positive intention.
  • Thank the part of you where this voice comes from, for having the positive intention.
  • Ask this part of you, to come with you and look for other options. You might ask: "If there were a number of different ways to achieve this intention, or if they would be even would be more effective than what you are doing, would you give it a chance? Wait for the confirmation that you're happy with.
  • Look somewhere else in yourself to find a part of yourself that is creative, or delighted to find other ways of doing things.Think of a time you've used this part really effectively. Ask this part to help you think of as much as possible different behaviors that you can choose from.Make sure that the voice selects the three best ones and that he is confident that it works.
  • Imagine yourself in the future, doing each of these three things at a suitable place. Take the time to exactly see, hear and feel what you feel in the future. If you've explored all the possibilities, ask your inner voice to choose one or more options.
